The Floridan aquifer that supplies most of the state delivers water laden with calcium and magnesium carbonates dissolved from millions of years of limestone geology. The tradeoff: TAC systems don't provide the full skin, hair, and soap-lathering benefits of true softened water. They prevent scale but don't produce truly "soft" water in the traditional sense. For homeowners primarily concerned about appliance protection, TAC is an excellent option. For those who also want the skin and hair benefits, a traditional softener is the better choice.
