Is North Port's Tap Water Safe to Drink?

North Port is served by Sarasota County Utilities, which supplies the city with water from two primary sources: the Floridan Aquifer (via deep production wells) and the Peace River (via the Manasota Regional Water Supply Authority's regional system). The county treats the blend with lime softening, filtration, and chloramine disinfection before distribution.
What Sarasota County's Testing Shows
Sarasota County's annual Consumer Confidence Reports for the North Port service area document water quality within EPA standards. Key findings typically include:
- Chloramines: present at 1–4 mg/L as a residual disinfectant
- TTHMs (Trihalomethanes): detected at 20–50 ppb (limit: 80 ppb) — higher than counties using pure groundwater, reflecting the Peace River surface water component
- HAA5s (Haloacetic Acids): detected at 15–35 ppb (limit: 60 ppb)

Is North Port Tap Water Safe?
Yes — for healthy adults drinking reasonable amounts of tap water daily, North Port's water supply poses no acute health risk. The utility consistently meets all regulatory standards.
