That's because it essentially is, except it comes from your own tap at a fraction of the cost and environmental footprint of purchasing plastic bottles.

The Compounding Problem of Hard Water + Chloramines

Orlando's water has a compounding issue that makes RO more valuable than in softer-water cities. The combination of high hardness and chloramine disinfection accelerates scale buildup in appliances while also making that scale harder to remove. Scale forms faster at high mineral concentrations, and chloramine residuals can't be cooked off by boiling the way free chlorine can.

This means your coffee maker, ice maker, and dishwasher face a one-two punch: constant mineral deposits that progressively reduce efficiency and a disinfectant residual that simple pitcher filters (like Brita's standard carbon models) won't fully remove. Point-of-use RO at the kitchen sink solves both problems for drinking and cooking water simultaneously.

What to Expect from an Under-Sink RO System in Orlando

Most residential RO systems in Orlando are installed under the kitchen sink and include a small storage tank (usually 2–4 gallons) plus a dedicated faucet. The system runs silently, filtering water on demand and topping off the tank between uses. A full installation typically takes a few hours and requires no plumbing modifications beyond connecting to the cold water supply line and drain.

Modern RO systems for Florida homes include at minimum:

  • A sediment pre-filter to remove any particulates (Orlando's distribution system occasionally introduces sediment after pipe repairs)

Is Reverse Osmosis Right for Every Orlando Home?

And those drawing from private wells in eastern Orange County or rural Osceola County face a different set of challenges — including bacterial contamination, iron, and hydrogen sulfide — that require a more comprehensive treatment strategy.
